Every other year the club hosts MG Jamboree. This is the main fund raiser for the club, and supports our activities. For this "no-judging" event the dress is casual, casual, casual! Your registration provides breakfast Saturday & Sunday, lunch on Saturday and both Friday & Saturday's evening meals. Friday's dinner is light and Saturday's is always a hearty meal with all the trimmings. Information for this year's MG Jamboree and access to a registration form are at the bottom of this page.
MG Jamboree begins with registration and a hospitality suite, upon guest arrival Friday afternoon - then the fun starts!
There are different theme activities on both Friday and Saturday evenings. In 2004, Friday's participants enjoyed a "Beach Party" party with a buffet and games of skill to occupy the evening. To wrap up the night, Dave Tietz hosted "MGs in the Movies" which was a series of movie snippits where the audience had to identify the title, year, stars and types of MGs in the movie.
Saturday included a scenic tour, tech sessions and a "Low Tea" for the ladies. There was a car display (informal, no judging), with a "Fill-Your-Tank" lunch provided for picnicing on the field, and in the evening a "Tacky Tourists"! After the party we always end with a "Fun Auction" where participants buy "stuff" other participants have brought.
MG Jamboree History
The first "MG Jamboree" held in Florida was officially called the "1984 Fall MG Jamboree" and was created and chaired by Dr. Jerry Keuper. The one-day Event was held on the Florida Institute of Technology campus in Mebourne on October 20, 1984. The Host Club was the "Florida Centre" of the "MG Car Club, Ltd.", headquartered in England. This Event offered low cost food and lodging, due primarily to the use of dorm rooms and college cooking. All MGs were welcome and there was participant judging in several classes as well as a road rallye. Also offered were "car games" and other "fun" activities like the "Lucas Generator Shot Put" and the "Discus TD Hubcap Throw". Hence the theme was "MG Olympics".
September 20 - 22 saw the "1985 Fall MG Jamboree" held at the Gold Key Inn located in Orlando, Florida. This Event was sponsored by the "Florida Centre" but was hosted by the "MG Car Club of Central Florida". Chairmen were Tony Roth and Al Sneller with Dennis Newman in charge of registration. This Event was held more along the outline of traditional Florida GOF's. Activities included participant car judging, a road rallye as well as a "funkanna" driving event.
In the summer of 1987, Tom and Eileen Jevcak suggested that the Club hold a major "Fun" MG Event based on their experience of attending the previous two "Fall MG Jamborees". The Club, then having only approximately 25 members, took on the challenge. The Event's name and format were modified and enhanced. "MG Jamboree 3" was held on June 10 - 12, 1988 at Homosassa Springs, where all subsequent "MG Jamborees" have been held.
In March of 1992 the "Florida Suncoast MG Car Club" saw the importance of this Event to this Club. With the blessings of Dr. Jerry Keuper, the "Florida Suncoast MG Car Club", for its exclusive use, officially registered with the State of Florida, the service mark "MG Jamboree".
