Spirit of Spirek Award The award is presented at MG Jamboree.
In memory of and in tribute to Frank Spirek, one of the original members of our Club, we have established the “Spirit of Spirek Award.” The recipient of this award is chosen by the Officers of the Club as an individual who embodies some of the characteristics that made Frank special. The award is presented at MG Jamboree.
Frank was a St. Petersburg fireman who in his spare time restored MGs. He was not a professional auto restorer...yet he created award winning cars…at one point having a stable of 7-8 show quality MGs. He was an active member of several car clubs, held leadership roles and regularly drove his cars to club meetings and club activities. Frank organized and planned club activities and willingly volunteered for duties at the many MG Jamborees and GOFs.
Frank enjoyed going to car shows. He was proud of his cars and also wanted to see other’s handiwork. He did his own mechanical repair, paint and bodywork. Although he believed in originality and tried to restore his cars as close as possible to original condition, he was not intolerant of modified entries. He freely shared information with less knowledgeable folks.
After finishing a restoration, Frank was proud to drive his cars as often as possible.
